VEYLDF Trial and Validation information
Trial and Validation VEYLDF 10 August – 23 October 2009
The purpose of the trial and validation was to inform the final draft of the VEYLDF and to identify service requirements to support the implementation in January 2010. The trial provided an opportunity for key stakeholders and the public to engage with the Framework and consider implications for the provision of early years services and education that enhance outcomes for children.
The validation and trial:
- gathered comprehensive feedback from early years service practitioners and school personnel,
- provided case examples of best practice currently in use,
- identified contextual factors that would facilitate or inhibit implementation of the VEYLDF in 2010
- encouraged ownership and engagement of early years practitioners and school personnel with the Framework.
The trial and validation was undertaken in sites around the state including:
- Family day care centres
- Occasional care services
- Maternal and Child Health Services
- Schools
- Supported play groups
- Outside School Hours Care Services

An opportunity to provide feedback on the VEYLDF was provided to all early years services and schools. Written submissions and online feedback has been provided. Face to face feedback was provided via information sessions and focus groups. Specific feedback was provided by 17 trial sites that were involved in trialling the national Early Years Learning Framework 0-5 on content, style and continuity of concepts contained in the draft of the Victorian Framework.
The following groups are invited to provide online feedback on the VEYLDF:
Families
Parents and carers across Victoria provided feedback on the Framework, both in terms of content and format and how it would work for them. A number of family focus groups were held in early years sites.
Managers of Early Years Services and Primary Schools - Principals and Assistant Principals
The managers of Early Years Services, responsible for the employment and monitoring of early years service providers and Primary School principals provided online feedback about the framework via a dedicated page of the online forum, and in regional consultations.
Maternal and Child Health Nurse and Supported Playgroup
Maternal and Child Health Nurses play a critical role in promoting the early development of young children. Supported playgroups provide families with a forum in which to develop their knowledge and understanding of their child’s development. Both these services provide the opportunity to promote a common language and a multi disciplinary approach to practice. The opportunity for both these groups to feedback on the VEYLDF was organised through focus groups to canvass their views on children’s learning and identify implications for practice.
Early Years Sites Practitioners/Teachers in Schools
A total of 42 sites across all regions participated in a more in-depth trial of two components of the Victorian Framework, ‘Learning for Outcomes’, and ‘Principles of Learning and Development.’ Settings will included,
- Schools (including, government, catholic and independent )
