Notice to Schools 50/2020 – 22 April 2020

Plain English Speaking Award 2020 to continue online

Principals/Directors, VCE and Year 10 English teachers and VCE debating coordinators

The state heats for the 2020 Plain English Speaking Award (PESA) will take place via online video conferencing. Students will not be required to travel to host schools this year.

Registrations for the state heats are now open. Entries close on Monday 4 May 2020.

Teachers can register students to participate via the online form, with a maximum of two students per school. Applicants must have been aged between 15 and 18 years on 1 January 2020.

There will be five state heats from Monday 18 May to Friday 22 May 2020. All state heats start at 9.30am. More heats will become available if additional sessions are required.

Action required

Principals/Directors should advise teachers and students that registrations for the PESA 2020 state heats are now open.

Additional information

PESA is a celebration of students' voices. The competition gives Victorian secondary students the opportunity to demonstrate excellence in public speaking, in addition to high-level research and writing skills. Students are required to deliver a six-minute prepared speech on a topic they are passionate about and a three-minute impromptu speech.
