Section 10

This section provides statistical information on the Victorian Literacy and Numeracy Standards Outcomes for 2023. All senior secondary students enrolled in one or more VCE or scored VCE VET Unit 3–4 sequence are tested against the standards when they sit the General Achievement Test (GAT).

1. Students who met the standard

Of the students who attempted the General Achievement Test (GAT)*:

  • 95.9% (80,538) met the Reading standard
  • 97.9% (81,424) met the Writing standard
  • 93.6% (78,954) met the Numeracy standard

2. Students who met the standard with excellence

Of the students who attempted the General Achievement Test (GAT)*:

  • 11.9% (9,955) met the Reading standard with excellence
  • 11.9% (9,859) met the Writing standard with excellence
  • 11.5% (9,667) met the Numeracy standard with excellence

*these totals includes 2023 students who met the standard or achieved excellence prior to 2023
