Final preparations for the General Achievement Test
Principals/directors and VCE coordinators, teachers and educators
The VCE Examination Manual will be delivered to schools with the GAT materials from the week beginning Monday 5 June.
We ask you to read the arrangements for the General Achievement Test (GAT) outlined in the manual to prepare for the administration of this year’s GAT.
In addition to the arrangements detailed in the manual, you should continue to implement existing school practices to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
We also ask you to read the information about GAT Section A and Section B front covers and answer books, 2023 GAT Brochure, Section A sample questions and past GAT papers on our website.
Please share the following key points with your students.
Studying for the GAT
Students do not have to study for the GAT. The questions are based on things students will already know or have learnt throughout school, or things they may have experienced in life.
What students can bring into the GAT
The GAT is a pen and paper test. Students can bring pens, pencils, and an eraser.
Students can bring in a scientific calculator and an English and/or bilingual printed (not electronic) dictionary into both sections of the GAT. They are not allowed to bring a thesaurus or combined thesaurus-dictionary.
Action
Principals/directors, please share this information with relevant staff and students.
Critical dates
Thursday 15 June – GAT held.
