Develop familiarity with the conventions of a Classical Greek lexicon

  • Revise the Classical Greek alphabet.
  • Ensure understanding of the principles governing the citation of authors’ names, the indication of root forms, the presentation of compound words and the marking of quantity of doubtful syllables.
  • Consult the alphabetical list of abbreviations and reorganise it into the following categories: author names, dialects, grammatical terms, lexical terminology, parts of speech, sundry.
  • Prepare a chart of examples from the body of the lexicon to illustrate each principle and abbreviation category.
  • Refer to a range of pages in the lexicon to analyse the presentation of nouns, verbs and adjectives.
  • Use the lexicon to examine the entry and determine the meaning of select words from the set text.
  • With lexical assistance read the set text section by section.
