Unit 3 – Sample approach to developing an assessment task
Area of study 1
Outcome 1: Enterprise Culture
On completion of this unit students should be able to describe and discuss enterprise culture in a community and/or work setting and explain and evaluate how the development of work-related skills by individuals contributes to an enterprise culture.
Task: Produce a digital presentation or written report
Step 1: Gather information
- Students need to be familiar with key terms and incorporate these into the presentation/report. Revise the
work-related skills and the importance of each of these in the workplace. Also have a clear definition and understanding of
enterprise culture.
- Hold a class discussion in order to ensure all students have a clear idea of the development and importance of enterprise culture in a workplace.
- During work placement, students should compile details about their specific workplace, including name, location of business, basic statistics such as size, number of employees and the industry the business is categorised as being a part of.
- Students also observe and make notes about the role and main tasks undertaken by employees at the workplace. They write a detailed description of work-related skills utilised in the workplace and how these skills are developed.
- Students need to observe and make notes to ascertain whether an enterprise culture is apparent in the observed workplace. This will provide evidence required for the final written report.
- Students should be able to describe in detail factors that contribute to the development of an enterprise culture in a workplace.
- Reflection on individual development of personal work-related skills should also occur.
Step 2: The report
- Students evaluate the extent of the development of an enterprise culture in a workplace. This involves an assessment of the proficiency and degree of application of work-related skills in the workplace and whether an enterprise culture has been developed as a consequence.
- To evaluate the extent to which work-related skills can be further developed in the workplace, students need to identify where improvements could be made in workplace skills and where these could be applied to create a stronger enterprise culture.
- Students analyse (i.e. examine in detail) their workplace by identifying specific work-related skills and explaining how these are effectively applied.
Unit 3 performance descriptors provide a guide to the levels of performance typically demonstrated within each range on the assessment task/s. The performance descriptors for each outcome identify the qualities or characteristics expected in a student response.
