VCE VET Applied Language

The VCE VET Applied Language program is drawn from nationally accredited curriculum and offers portable qualifications which are recognised throughout Australia. These qualifications provide students with a broad range of skills and knowledge to pursue a career or further training in language studies and related industries.

The VCE VET Applied Language program does not offer scored assessment.

Qualifications

10949NAT Certificate II in Applied Language: a nationally accredited curriculum that offers students the opportunity to develop basic oral and written communication in the language in a range of standard social and workplace situations.

Credit in the VCE (including VCE VM and VPC): recognition of up to three VCE VET Units at Units 1 and 2 level.

10661NAT Certificate III in Applied Language: a nationally accredited curriculum that offers students the opportunity to develop routine oral and written communication in the language in a range of standard social and workplace situations.

Credit in the VCE (including VCE VM and VPC): recognition of up to three VCE VET Units at Units 3 and 4 level, including a VCE VET Unit 3–4 sequence.

11074NAT Certificate III in Applied Language: a nationally accredited curriculum that offers students the opportunity to develop routine oral and written communication in the language in a range of standard social and workplace situations.

Credit in the VCE (including VCE VM and VPC): recognition of up to three VCE VET Units at Units 3 and 4 level, including a VCE VET Unit 3–4 sequence.

Note: Students must demonstrate competency as identified in the Certificate II in Applied Language prior to undertaking the Certificate III in Applied Language. For the purposes of credit in the VCE, equivalence has been established between all VCE Languages, VCE VET Applied Language and VET Languages, where the language is the same.

Program material

The VCE VET Applied Language program booklet contains information relating to the qualifications approved by the VCAA for delivery to VCE (including VCE VM and VPC) students.

It includes advice on the units of competency making up the program and the credit available for students.

It also provides advice on Structured Workplace Learning, the ATAR contribution and pathways to further learning.

ATAR contribution

Students who receive a VCE VET Unit 3–4 sequence for any of the VCE VET Applied Language qualifications will be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR (10% of the lowest study score of the primary four studies).

The increment is awarded by the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC). For more information, visit VTAC.

Structured workplace learning recognition

The VCAA provides recognition for Structured Workplace Learning for students undertaking a VCE VET program (VE1) or a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SBAT) (VE2).
