Message from our CEO
Welcome to May and the month of days getting shorter, leaves falling and the mercury starting to drop. I hope you had an enjoyable Mother’s Day, whether spending it with your Mum, as a Mum or remembering your Mum. As the saying goes, mothers are our first and best teachers.
National Careers Week
This edition of the Bulletin coincides with National Careers Week (16–22 May), celebrating the economic, social and personal benefits of career development. The week kicked off in Melbourne with the inaugural Trades Fit expo for young women looking to work in the trade and tech industries. As VCAL Achievement Awards recipient Dakota Walker recently reminded us ‘there is still work to be done to ensure there is equity of choices for all young people in all industries’. You can read more about Dakota and her amazing journey, as well as the achievements of the other incredible recipients of this year’s VCAL Achievement Awards, under the Excellence and Awards section and on the awards page.
Victorian Pathways Certificate
The accreditation of the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) has similarly come in good time and the VCAA is delighted to deliver the new curriculum for schools and providers. The VPC will support many Year 11 and 12 students to connect with industry and transition into suitable pathways after school. Again, I invite you to find out more by attending one of our information sessions or completing our online courses about the new pathways certificates.
F–10 Curriculum redevelopment
I am also delighted to report that we recently got the green light to embark on an exciting initiative, the redevelopment of the F–10 curriculum. This heralds the next generation in F–10 education and signals a welcome opportunity to enhance and refine Victoria’s curriculum design and content and to develop new resources to support teachers in their practice. Planning is underway and I look forward to keeping you up to date with progress over the coming months.
VCE delivery on the Northern Hemisphere Timetable Program
The VCAA recently received funding to continue delivery of the VCE Northern Hemisphere Timetable Program over the next two years. This is great news not only for the schools already involved in the program but for schools looking to offer the Northern Hemisphere Timetable in the future. Find out more about the program on our VCE on a Northern Hemisphere Timetable page.
