In June 2024, the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) released the Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0. This contemporary, knowledge rich curriculum aims to empower Victorian students to meet the challenges and opportunities present in our constantly changing world.

Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0 release

This release is available on our new and easier to use website and includes the Arts, Technologies, Humanities, Health and Physical Education, Languages (Phase 1), Science, the capabilities, cross-curriculum priorities and the foundational skills. This follows the curriculum release of English 2.0 and Mathematics 2.0 in 2023 with additional resources released in late 2024 (see English and Mathematics).

Support provided

To support this release, we created a series of introductory resources and videos for each curriculum area and ran a series of interactive webinars throughout Term 3 of 2024 - this provided teachers and school leaders from all sectors (government, independent and Catholic) the opportunity to have questions answered by VCAA curriculum managers.

With 9946 registrations, we were beyond thrilled to support Victorian educators from across the state. The highest attendance by learning area was Science curriculum 7–10, Science curriculum F– 6, followed by Visual Arts and Communication, and Phonic and Word Knowledge – at level. In attendance included educators from all levels including teachers, curriculum leaders, principals and assistant principals. Some of our most engaged audiences included Drama curriculum 7 – 10, Phonics and Word Knowledge – at level and the Science curriculums (both F–6 and 7–10) - with the most questions asked during these webinars.

We also presented at the Victorian Schools Principals Conference, Victorian Commercial Teachers Association Work Futures Conference and supported regional groups to better understand the curriculum and resources available.

Feedback to the release

Felix, Victorian educator

“The webinars [were] really great, they empowered teachers to engage directly with the Curriculum rather than rely on [possibly outdated] versions handed down to them by schools. I can sense an ongoing improvement happening with this, a trend towards professional resilience and collaboration across learning areas, so well done!”

Lily, Victorian educator

“Thank you for helping with greater familiarisation with documents, content and resources”

Angela, Victorian educator

“Loved having the experts [present in the webinars], and that unanswered questions are to be answered in follow up documents”

Dr. Helen Schiele, Principal Consultant and Senior Early Childhood Specialist, Independent Schools Victoria

“Since the launch of the Victorian Curriculum V2.0 VCAA has worked tirelessly to craft and develop professional development opportunities for teachers and curriculum leaders to build capacity and working knowledge of the curricular. These resources are very user friendly and take you through the curriculum at a pace which allows the individual to grasp the finer points of the curriculum. These resources are especially beneficial for those out of field allowing for a deeper drive into the curriculum and thus building pedagogical and conceptual knowledge. They are easily transferable into the school setting seeing them used within a professional learning community, another way to deepen professional practice.  The Victorian Curriculum V. 2.0 allows the teacher to build a guaranteed and viable curriculum one that allows for a vertical and horizontal sequence to be developed”

CEO Professor Elizabeth Labone, Victorian Catholic Education Authority

“The new Victorian Curriculum Version 2.0 website is well designed and will set Victorian Catholic educators up for success by providing them with a knowledge-rich curriculum to meet the changing educational needs of students… Victorian Catholic teachers [have been] supported to identify and implement the key changes of the F-10 Curriculum Version 2.0 through clear and comprehensive resources and engaging professional learning opportunities that [gave] them the opportunity to have their questions answered in real-time”

Remaining future focussed

We are proud of the work that has gone into the 2024 curriculum release and are busy working on the remaining curriculum areas including Phase 2 - 4 Languages, English as an Additional Languages (EAL) and Levels A - D (towards Foundation). These curriculums and supporting resources will be released between late 2024 and the start of the 2026 school year. See the timeline for familiarisation and implementation for more information.

If you have any feedback on the curriculum, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch via email: vcaa.f10.curriculum@education.vic.gov.au.
