Interpreting your Statement of Results

GAT Statement of Results

If you sat this year’s GAT, your skills were assessed against standards in literacy and numeracy.

The standards indicate if you demonstrated the literacy and numeracy skills typically expected of someone completing their secondary schooling – giving another indication of your readiness for further education, training or employment.

Your results will show whether you have met the standards, not met the standard, or met the standards and demonstrated a level of excellence.

In addition, if you completed both sections of the GAT, your results will include scores for each GAT component:

• Writing (Section A) and Written Communication (Section B)
• Reading (Section A) and Humanities/Arts/Social Sciences (Section B)
• Numeracy (Section A) and Mathematics/Science/Technology (Section B)

If you didn’t meet the new standards

If you completed your secondary studies this year but did not meet one or more of the new standards tested or were unable to attend the GAT, you have the option to register to sit the test again in April 2024.

Results deep dive

If you want to deep dive into your results, you can request a Statement of Marks and a Statement of Study Score. Just complete the form that’s included in your results pack

• Get the form in by Friday 2 February 2024.
• A Statement of Marks shows the score you got for each question on an exam. It also gives a range of scores that corresponds to yours
• A Statement of Study Scores provides a detailed breakdown of how your study score was calculated

Inspect your exam responses

You can also ask to look at your exam responses. To do this, complete the form that’s included in your results pack and ask your Principal to sign it.

• Get the form in by Friday 2 February 2024
• The inspection will take place at your school
• Leave your mobile phone, or anything else that records audio, shoots video or takes photos, at home
• You won’t be allowed to copy your exam responses

Confirmation of grades

If there’s a huge difference between the results you got and the results you were expecting to get, talk to your school.

It’s possible your Principal may ask us to confirm your grades by running an admin check.

• It’s very rare for a mistake to occur
• Only your principal can ask us to confirm grades. We do not accept requests from students, parents or advocates
  
• Your Principal can request this process for any type of external assessment, including performance, languages, externally assessed tasks and written examinations
