Notice to Schools 46 - 14 May 2026

Update: Compassionate late withdrawal process

Principals/Directors, VCE, VPC and VET Coordinators, and VASS Administrators

A new Compassionate Late Withdrawal Application form has been introduced for schools applying to withdraw a student from one or more VCE Units 3 and 4 after the critical dates, due to exceptional circumstances. The new form provides clearer guidance on eligibility criteria, required supporting documentation, and the level of detail needed to assess applications.

This form is available to download from VASS.

Schools are encouraged to use the new form to support timely and consistent processing of applications. The existing Application for late VCE and VPC enrolment amendments form will continue to be accepted during a transition period where compassionate late withdrawal is requested.

Requirements for compassionate late withdrawal remain unchanged. Applications must be submitted by the Principal or delegate and must relate to students who have experienced significant adverse circumstances that prevent them from completing their studies. Appropriate supporting evidence must be provided. Applications will not be approved where a final assessment grade has been reported.
