The VCAA sets and upholds curriculum, assessment and reporting standards, and ensures they are coherent and accessible, so that teachers and schools can deliver a high-quality, fair and connected learning journey with clearly defined and inclusive pathways.

Legislation and core functions

The VCAA was established under the repealed Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority Act 2000 and continues to operate under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (the Act).

Governance

The VCAA is a statutory authority primarily accountable to the Minister for Education, serving both government and non-government schools.

The VCAA is also responsible to the Minister for Education and the Minister for Training and Skills in relation to sections of Part 2.5 of the Act that they administer.
