Notice to Schools 69 - 25 June 2026

Update: 2026 VCE Theatre Studies monologue examination

Principals/Directors, VCE Coordinators and VCE Theatre Studies teachers

The VCAA advises that a student’s Actor and Director monologue interpretation of Monologue 7, Lake Disappointment (as published in April 2026), would likely exceed the prescribed time allowance of ‘not more than 7 minutes’.

To address this, the VCAA confirms that students undertaking the Actor and Director interpretation of this monologue will not be penalised for exceeding the 7-minute time allowance. To ensure this:

  • students may take up to 12 minutes to deliver the monologue
  • assessors will be advised that a student will not be disadvantaged by using the extended time allowance
  • assessors will advise students at their examination they have up to 12 minutes to deliver their monologue
  • additional assessment quality controls will be applied if a student appears to have been rushed to complete the assessment task.

All schools with 2026 VCE Theatre Studies enrolments will be notified of these changes.
