Changes to VCE Mathematics examinations
Principals, VCE coordinators, Mathematics teachers
Last week the VCAA received the report of the independent review into its VCE exam-setting processes and procedures. This review was led by Dr John Bennett, who was previously the CEO of the NSW Board of Studies, now known as the New South Wales Education Standards Authority.
The review made 6 recommendations, including specific recommendations relating to improving the development and quality assurance of mathematics exams. A key recommendation refers to multiple choice questions where the number of choices be reduced from 5 to 4. The VCAA will adopt this recommendation this year for all 4 mathematics examinations in the Mathematics Study Design.
This brings these examinations into line with those in all other VCE Study Designs and those in comparable jurisdictions.
As further improvements are made to VCE exam-setting policies and processes, we will communicate directly to schools through our standard communications processes and in a timely manner.
