A new partnership established between the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority and the Monash University School of Mathematics is strengthening the quality of VCE Mathematics examinations in 2024 and beyond.
This partnership is the first of its kind in Victoria to increase the representation of suitably qualified academics on the VCE Mathematics examination development panels, as well as strengthening the examination review processes.
As part of the partnership, Monash University mathematicians at Senior Lecturer level and above have been involved in the review of the content and quality assurance processes of the VCE Mathematics examinations, improving all examinations as a result.
Professor Warwick Tucker, Head of the School of Mathematics at Monash University says “Our partnership with the VCAA marks a significant milestone in advancing the quality of mathematics education in Victoria.
“By integrating the expertise of our mathematicians into the examination development and review processes, we aim to ensure that VCE Mathematics assessments are not only rigorous but also fair and reflective of the curriculum's objectives.”
From 2025, Monash University mathematicians will continue to strengthen their engagement in preparing VCAA’s VCE Mathematics examinations. This includes the examinations for Specialist Mathematics, Mathematical Methods and General Mathematics.
The partnership highlights a commitment to the quality of mathematics examinations in Victoria, ensuring that mathematics students are provided with the best opportunity to be assessed fairly on the skills they have attained during their VCE.
