Exciting developments in the Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0

The VCAA has released new curriculums for the Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0.
F-10 educators now have access to:
- English Foundation Levels A to D
- English as an Additional Language (EAL) curriculum
- 9 additional Languages curriculums – including Arabic, Classical Greek, Framework for Classical Languages, Hindi, Latin, Non-Roman Alphabet Languages, Roman Alphabet Languages, Turkish and Vietnamese.
Revised English Foundation Levels A to D
Victoria offers an inclusive curriculum for all students, in every school. The newly published Foundation Levels A to D in the English curriculum are for learners with intellectual and cognitive disabilities and those experiencing learning delays.
Publication of these 4 levels is an important advancement that supports inclusive education in Victoria. Designed to create an accessible, meaningful pathway, publication of these 4 levels builds a clear, developmentally sequenced continuum from Foundation Level A through to Level 10, grounded in contemporary research.
What makes English Foundation Levels A to D unique?
- refined and inclusive achievement standards, simplified content that makes assessment and reporting clearer for teachers and families
- continuum of learning across levels that enables students to access developmentally appropriate content and positions them as active learners
- age-appropriate, interest-based elaborations that engage school-aged students effectively, and support their ongoing development
- introduction of sub-strands such as Examining Literature and Creating Literature, which makes Foundation Levels A to D a truly inclusive and empowering framework for diverse learners.

Revised English as an Additional Language (EAL) curriculum
With the recent release of the revised EAL curriculum, Victoria continues to lead in the provision of a comprehensive English language program for students who speak one or more home languages other than English.
The key revisions are:
- reorganisation of the curriculum content into 3 strands (Listening and Speaking, Reading, and Viewing and writing), with 3 consistent sub-strands
- addition of a new level in Pathway A to cater for students entering from Prep to Year 2 with minimal exposure to literacy in their home language(s) and few to no prior schooling experiences
- strengthened alignment to English Version 2.0, including phonics instruction, to support all classroom teachers.

Languages curriculums
Learning one or more languages broadens students’ horizons in relation to their personal, social and cultural worlds. Victoria continues to support linguistic and cultural diversity with the publication of 9 additional Languages curriculums: Arabic, Classical Greek, Framework for Classical Languages, Hindi, Latin, Non-Roman Alphabet Languages, Roman Alphabet Languages, Turkish and Vietnamese.
The Non-Roman Alphabet Languages and Roman Alphabet Languages curriculums are unique to Victoria. They provide a curriculum framework for languages where there is no specific curriculum available to be offered by a Victorian school.
The key revisions are:
- adoption of the same structure as the published Languages Version 2.0 curriculums
- outlined achievement standards and content descriptions that teachers can use to plan and implement teaching and learning programs, and assess student learning
- inclusion of generic elaborations that teachers can refer to as examples of how the curriculum can be implemented in their classrooms.
Find out more by exploring the Languages Version 2.0 curriculums and viewing the new resources, including the 'Introducing [Language]’ document, scope and sequence, and comparison of curriculums on each relevant Languages curriculum page.
