Notice to Schools 90 –
14 July 2023

Last day for Unit 3 School-assessed Task scores and last day for VCE, including VCE VM Unit 4 or VCE VET scored Unit 3 and 4 units of competency withdrawal

Principals/Directors, VCE, VCE VM and VCAL Coordinators, VASS Administrators and Teachers of these studies

Schools are reminded that Monday 17 July is:

  • the date VCE Unit 3 School-assessed Task scores are due. The 2023 Assessment Schedule has a list of VCE studies that require School-assessed Task scores
  • the last day to withdraw students from VCE, including VCE VM Unit 4 and scored VCE VET Unit 3 and 4 units of competency.

After this date VASS will not allow SAT scores to be entered for the following specific criterion scores:

  • Algorithmics (HESS), Criteria 1–4
  • Applied Computing: Data Analytics, Criteria 1-5
  • Applied Computing: Software Development, Criteria 1-5
  • Art Creative Practice, Criteria 1-6
  • Art Making and Exhibiting, Criteria 1-5
  • Media, Criteria 1-4
  • Product Design and Technology, Criteria 1-3
  • Systems Engineering, Criteria 1-3
  • Visual Communication, Criteria 1-3

VCE withdrawals

Withdrawals will only be supported on compassionate grounds where an application has been made by the school and approved by the VCAA.

Withdrawing a student from a VCE, VCE VM Unit 4 study may affect a student’s eligibility to complete the VCE, VCE VM or VCAL Intermediate in 2023. This includes Senior VCAL units being delivered as part of a VCE VM program as per the 2023 transition arrangements.

Schools should run VCE, VCE VM and VCAL student eligibility reports for students before making any changes to student programs to ensure that students who intend to complete a senior secondary certificate in 2023 will be able to meet the eligibility requirements.

Schools should also take care when withdrawing students from VCE Unit 4 studies as a late fee may apply if a student is incorrectly withdrawn and needs to be reinstated in the Unit 4 study.

Action

Principals/Directors should:

  • ensure coordinators and VASS administrators enter the required scores in VASS by the due date
  • ensure VCE Unit 4 or VCE VET scored Unit 3-4 units of competency withdrawals are actioned on VASS by the due date.

Critical dates

Monday 17 July 2023

More information

Refer to the VASS instructions for 2023 Last Day to Enter Unit 3 SATs and the 2023 Last Day for Unit 4 Withdrawals.

Schools should be attentive when selecting an appropriate VET Assessing Group as this is where the delivery of VET curriculum and assessment is taking place.

The Assessing Group will be used to define which moderation group students will be placed into for the purposes of statistical moderation, when undertaking a scored VCE VET Unit 3-4 program. The selection of the correct Assessing Group is therefore important if students are not to be potentially disadvantaged.
