The
VCE Season of Excellence showcases exemplary works by 2023 VCE and VCE VET students from across the performing arts, technology, design, visual arts and research studies. Presented in venues across Melbourne, the VCE Season of Excellence exhibits students’ vibrant scope of work within the VCE and VCE VET Curricula.
In 2024, the VCE Season of Excellence Top Class events will travel to Regional Victoria, to the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre (GPAC), which is a new purpose-built, state-of-the-art venue in Traralgon. See

GPAC website from Thursday 22 February.

Top Scribe 2025 – another new offering within the VCE Season of Excellence
The VCAA is proud to announce Top Scribe 2025, a new program within the VCE Season of Excellence.
Top Scribe will celebrate original works by 2024 VCE Literature students from across Victoria who are undertaking the VCE or the VCE Vocational Major. Top Scribe 2025 will showcase innovative and experimental creative writing produced by VCE Literature students in their school-assessed course work.
Participating students undertaking Unit 4, Area of Study 1, will have their creative writing published in the inaugural Top Scribe 2025 publication, which will be printed and distributed to school libraries, to support and inspire emerging writers.
Applications will open on Monday 2 September 2024 on the
VCE Season of Excellence webpage and close on Sunday 22 October 2024. A panel will then read the submissions and make their selections, with successful applicants notified by mid-December.
Selected works must:
- achieve an A+ or A on the School-assessed Task
- be appropriate for publication and meet community standards
- provide evidence of copyright clearance and/or citation for all non-original material used
- be accompanied by an Authentication Record Form, signed by the student and their teacher.

One VCE teacher’s journey to becoming an assessor
Kate loves teaching VCE studies and in her other role contributes to our education system as a VCE assessor.
‘I knew I wanted to be an assessor after my first year of teaching Year 12. I felt that I needed to know how an exam was assessed so I could use that knowledge to better prepare my students. The journey to becoming an assessor has been rewarding and the best way I know to evolve into a better teacher’.
‘Becoming an assessor had its challenges at first though’, Kate admitted, ‘but I got faster with time and experience. I want everyone to know that the marking program is easy to use, and online marking is super simple’.
For teachers who might be thinking about becoming assessors, Kate says it’s a no brainer. ’100 percent. Just do it! It’s the best personal development you’ll ever do.
Kate emphasised the camaraderie and fun experiences that come with working with other assessors.
‘I get to meet a lot of new people and I have become close friends with several of them. There’s a sense that we’re all in it together, we’re in the same boat – no assessor is ever alone’.
