Top Scribe FAQ
Guidelines for Selected Works
A panel of VCE Literature teachers review applicant submissions and make their selections. Successful applicants notified by mid-December.
Works selected must:
- achieve an A+ or A on the School-assessed Task
- be appropriate for publication and meet community standards
- provide evidence of copyright clearance and/or citation for all non-original material used
- be accompanied by an Authentication Record Form, signed by the student and their teacher.
Is the A mark for the SAC inclusive of the creative piece and the commentary?
No. The student must receive and A or A+ for the creative piece only to be eligible for Top Scribe.
However, the commentary must be submitted alongside the creative piece, as it has a chance to be published in the collection too.
Do submissions have to be Unit 3/4? What if we teach 1/2 this year?
Yes. Top Scribe 2026 only includes works from Unit 4, Outcome 1.
Are students who replicate the world of the text advantaged over those who create their own original stories with author style and themes?
No. Works are selected based only on the ways they exemplify elements of the VCE Literature Study Design.
If we've set a prompt for the task, should we include this at the top of the student's submission?
Yes. There will be a field to include this information in the application form.
