Independent review update: Publishing examination material
Principals/Directors, VCE coordinators and VCE Mathematics teachers
In March 2024, the VCAA received the
independent review into its VCE examination-setting policies, processes and procedures. The review was led by Dr John Bennett, who was previously the CEO of the NSW Board of Studies, now known as the New South Wales Education Standards Authority.
The independent review highlighted specific areas for improvement, particularly in VCE Mathematics and Chemistry examinations.
One of the independent review recommendations was for the VCAA to publish examination material in a more timely manner. The VCAA is committed to publishing:
- the VCE Mathematics examination papers within 5 days of a paper being sat.
- the final version of the VCE Mathematics marking guides used to assess students’ performance within 5 days of the end of the marking period.
- the reports prepared by the Chief Assessors before the end of January 2025.
