Principals/Directors, VCE English and EAL teachers, and VASS coordinators
In response to first year implementation feedback, the VCAA has made adjustments to VCE English and English as an Additional Language (EAL) Study Design in Unit 3 AOS 2 and Unit 4 AOS 2.
The VCAA will host a Q&A online session on Monday 9 December at 3:45 pm – 4:30 pm.
Register for the webinar.
The first year of implementing Unit 3&4 of the revised VCE English and EAL Study Design has demonstrated there is a significant range of experiences in implementing this study design in Year 12 classrooms. It has been vital to respond to the lived experiences of many English teachers and to adjust the Study Design to address workload to create flexibility where necessary.
While there have been adjustments, what does not change is the rich connection between key knowledge and skills – these have remained the same. In supporting implementation of the adjustments, VCAA has provided a collection of resources from practitioners that can be adapted and customised by teachers.
Key adjustments include an:
- update to Unit 3 Outcome 2 assessment task and weighting (page 28)
- addition of Unit 3 task conditions (page 29)
- update to Unit 4 Area of Study 2 Outcome statement (page 32)
- update to Unit 4 Outcome 2 assessment task (page 34)
- addition of Unit 4 task conditions (page 35).
The adjustments to the VCE English and EAL Study Design are supported by a series of bespoke online resources, including:
- a sample teaching and learning plan for Unit 3, Outcome 2
- sample lessons plans for Unit 3, Outcome 2
- sample teaching and learning activities for Unit 3, Outcome 2 and Unit 4, Outcome 2
- advice on marking and moderation for internal assessment.
