Independent review update: VCAA improvements to VCE examination process
Principals/Directors, VCE coordinators and VCE teachers
Significant progress has been made by the VCAA following the release of the independent review into examination-setting policies, processes and procedures in March 2024.
The independent review highlighted specific areas for improvement, particularly in Mathematics and Chemistry examinations. The VCAA will be fully implementing all the independent review panel’s recommendations to deliver on the Government’s commitment. We are pleased to report that we have made substantial progress, including:
- engaging study specialists to contribute at critical stages of Mathematics and Chemistry examination development and as additional quality assurance
- strengthening our review process and checks for 2024 Mathematics and Chemistry examinations
- increasing funding for Mathematics and Chemistry panels to develop examinations.
Looking ahead, we’re working to improve the end-to-end process to drive quality and efficiency for Mathematics and Chemistry VCE examinations, including providing additional support and training to empower our staff and examination panels in developing consistently high-quality exams.
