What are the art elements and principles taught in Visual Arts?

The Visual Arts discipline has been restructured with a focus on the concepts behind the intentions of the artist, the artwork and the context where it is viewed and the audience response to an artwork. Through this process of learning about artists and artworks, students gain a greater understanding of visual culture and visual literacy.

The Art elements and art principles are embedded into the content descriptors under ‘Visual Conventions’. This aligns the Visual Arts with learning strategies in all of the Arts through the use of conventions. In Visual Arts, Visual Conventions include the art elements and principles of style and composition. They form an approach to analysing and investigating the structural representations in artworks.
