New VET opportunity Certificate II in Heavy and Light Rail Fundamentals

The Certificate II in Heavy and Light Rail Fundamentals (Pre-vocational) will commence in 2020. This bespoke program is designed for secondary students considering a career pathway into the expanding rail industry. The course will provide students with the skills and knowledge used across a broad range of roles in infrastructure, rolling-stock operations and customer service.

In 2020 the Rail Academy Newport, through Swinburne TAFE, will enrol two groups of secondary school students into the VET course. The new course will be delivered over two years. The academy will provide students with hands-on experience in a simulated rail environment.

Schools that wish to provide students with VET training in a growing industry are invited to submit an expression of interest to Dennis Tonkin, Program Manager, VET Unit: tonkin.dennis.j@edumail.vic.gov.au. For further information, contact the VET Unit: (03) 9603 7952.

Call for careers educators and VET coordinators to support the roll out of Get VET resources

The VET unit is establishing a reference group of careers teachers and VET coordinators to assist in developing strategies for schools to introduce the Get VET resources to as many students as possible. The reference group will meet twice before the end of the school year. Schools will be provided with CRT funding to enable the release of their staff, as required.

If you are aware of the Get VET resources and would like to help develop an implementation strategy for Get VET, email your expression of interest to the VET Unit: vet.vcaa@edumail.vic.gov.au.

Structured Workplace Learning recognition enrolment on VASS advice

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) recognition is applicable only to students who have a current or past enrolment of at least one year of study in the VCE VET program or SBAT relating directly to their placement or employment. As it is not compulsory, only students wishing to undertake the requirements of the workplace learning record are to be enrolled on VASS. SWL recognition is available for both VCE and VCAL students. Enrolments and results may be entered until the final date for VET results, Monday 11 November 2019.

VCE VET Animal Studies urgent attention required for VASS enrolment

VCE students who commenced ACM20110 Certificate II in Animal Studies in 2018, and are continuing this year in ACM20117 Certificate II in Animal Studies, will need to make changes on VASS in order for a Unit 3–4 sequence to accumulate.

The continuing students will need to be re-enrolled in all units of competency with an S result that were completed in 2018 in order for the new ACM20117 qualification to be eligible for a Unit 3–4 sequence this year. The enrolment for VCAL students will not need to change.

VCE or VCAL eligibility reports should be run for concerned students to ensure they are receiving their full entitlement of credit.

Top Designs 2020

The Season of Excellence provides a great opportunity to recognise outstanding student work. In 2020, Top Designs (as part of the VCE Season of Excellence), will present works from the following VCE VET Programs:

The VCAA welcomes applications from students enrolled in the above VCE VET programs.

To help build excitement and awareness in your students, we have produced a poster to be displayed in classrooms. The poster is available for download via each VCE VET program webpage.

SWL records error

SWL records available on the VCE VET program webpages have recently been found to contain errors, such as referring to the incorrect industry. The VCAA has begun a process of rectifying these errors, scheduled to be completed Friday 20 September 2019.

Students who have started using the existing SWL records will not need to revert to the corrected versions to receive SWL recognition credit towards their VCE or VCAL.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused to teachers and students.
