The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority is dedicated to providing high-quality curriculum and assessment for Victorian students. Our core responsibilities include developing and administering over 160 exams for approximately 80,000 VCE students each year. This significant and complex task requires the collaboration of all parts of the VCAA and our partners to ensure quality examinations.
Following the Independent Review into the VCAA’s Examination-Setting Policies, Processes, and Procedures, we are fully implementing the recommendations to uphold the Government’s commitment. As part of this effort, we are expanding our collaboration with academics and experts to further enhance the quality of Victorian exams.
For the 2024 examinations, we have included two additional Mathematics academics as Study Specialist Reviewers for Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics, and one additional Mathematics academic for General Mathematics.
As part of the review process, we have introduced an additional layer of scrutiny by having an independent academic who has not been involved in the examination development, conduct a Study Specialist Review of the ‘print-ready’ examination papers for General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, and Chemistry.
Looking ahead to 2025 and beyond, we are further strengthening our panels to ensure our end-to-end processes are robust, consistent, and efficient for all exams. Each of the Mathematics Examination Development Panels will include:
(a) Two Mathematics academics as question writers for the examination.
(b) Two Mathematics academics as Study Specialist Reviewers for each of Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics, and one for General Mathematics paper.
These initiatives emphasise our commitment to continuous improvement and in quality examination development.
