Celebrating the demonstrated, outstanding achievement of VCE students, the Premier’s VCE Awards is distributed to selected students within four main categories:

  • Top All-Round VCE High Achievers
  • Outstanding VCE Vocational Major Student Awards
  • Top Three International Students
  • Study Awards

The 2023 Premier’s VCE Awards recipients were recently celebrated at the 2024 Presentation Ceremony on the 17th of July, presented by Premier Jacinta Allen. The awards reflect the exceptional dedication and hard work of 310 students during the 2023 VCE season with over 1,000 recipients, parents, teachers, and school principals in attendance.

This is the first year that the award ceremony will feature the Outstanding VCE Vocational Major Student Award category, recognising students of all skills and achievements. This follows the Victorian Government’s introduction in 2023 of the dedicated vocational major program within the Victorian Certificate of Education.

Saffi’s VCE Journey

Saffi

Saffi Campbell Walker

Saffi, now studying a Bachelor of Music majoring in jazz and improvisation at the Victorian College of the Arts, celebrates her outstanding achievements in the VCE Music Contemporary Performance subject.

“I think having music as part of my year 12 journey, it gave me space to work on those other things separately, because I kind of felt like a kind of relief or a break from doing that chemistry and methods where I had to kind of use my brain in a very different way.”

Saffi’s passion resonates with her desire to become a music teacher.

“Probably the biggest thing working with other teachers that has inspired me to want to be an educator is just playing with them and seeing how far I can kind of go,” Saffi said.

“I want to just show kids what they can do.”

Harry’s VCE Vocational Major Journey

Harry

Harry Graafsma

Harry celebrates his achievements as an outstanding VCE Vocational Major Student, exploring his passion for flying. He began his Diploma of Aviation as part of the program which led to an impressive internship with Qantas that he started in February.

“Not many people have the opportunity to go straight into a job like this, straight after year 12,” Harry said.

“I feel the VCE Vocational Major program and the Diploma of Aviation definitely contributed to me getting my foot in to where I am now.”

For those considering the VCE Vocational Major pathway, Harry has some advice for current students.

“If you have a passion or if there is a pathway for you in the Vocational Major program, just go for it,” he said.
