Loretta Black, Manager–VET Unit and Leanne Compton, Curriculum Manager–Design and Technologies presented at the conference. Loretta focused on best practice in teaching hospitality and cookery and supported those new to delivering and assessing scored VCE VET programs.

Leanne enjoyed collaborating with teachers and engaging in meaningful discussions while presenting on the revised Design and Technologies curriculum – its resources and new versions ready for 2025. She also took part in VCE Food Studies sessions run by practising teachers, supporting the delivery of the content in the study design.

Coinciding with World Teachers Day, the conference celebrated talented and passionate Home Economics teachers. The health and wellbeing of individuals, families and communities was a focus as well as highlighting how Home Economics is delivered in schools, incorporating topics such as health, food, and textiles. Attendees shared best practice teaching methods, explored new teaching strategies and shared ideas to foster student engagement and learning outcomes.

conference bags

Attendees received a conference bag, designed by textile designer, artist and teacher Taylah Eid. The central image on the bag represents 'home'. Purple elements on the bag highlight the needs for native plants: sun, oxygen, fire and water. The green images represent common foods used in traditional cooking for nourishment and sharing: gum leaf, Kakadu plum and pepperberry.
