For more than a decade, Contemporary Art on the Road has supported arts education in regional Victoria by connecting students, educators, and contemporary artists.
Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0 and VCE Visual Arts curriculum, Contemporary Art on the Road fosters a network of practice among regional educators, supporting their professional growth and enriching student learning.
Melissa Bedford, Education Manager at Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA), highlights the importance of the program: "Our shared passion for contemporary art—and recognising the gap in opportunities for regional educators—led us to create a program that connects teachers with leading contemporary artists."
Recent workshops featured contemporary artists Lisa Waup and Nathan Beard, offered participants the opportunity to explore new approaches to teaching and art-making.
A 2024 participant reflected on the experience: "The day reinvigorated my passion for teaching visual arts. The small group format encouraged meaningful discussions, and the artist-led workshops were a highlight."
The program is delivered in partnership with Gertrude Contemporary and MUMA, providing hands-on workshops at galleries across the state, including Horsham, Shepparton, Castlemaine, Bendigo, and Latrobe.
