Notice to Schools 83/2022 – 1 June 2022

Training for conducting and administering 2022 VCE external assessments, including the GAT

Principals/directors, VCE coordinators and Examination Centre coordinators

All newly appointed chief supervisors and newly appointed school personnel must attend training before starting their role.

Training sessions will be held online during July and August using Webex Events. Please register through the links below under ‘Critical dates’.

Read the collection notice and refer to Additional registration information before registering.

Newly appointed chief supervisors responsible for the conduct and administration of the 2022 VCE external assessments, including the General Achievement Test (GAT), VCE written examinations and the Extended Investigation Critical Thinking Test (CTT), must attend one of the training sessions.

Any new chief supervisor appointed immediately before the 2021 VCE written examinations who could not attend the October 2020 training sessions for new chief supervisors must also attend.

School personnel who are responsible for the conduct and administration of VCE external assessments, and are new to this role, must also attend a training session, even if their school has a continuing and experienced chief supervisor.

Schools should also consider their succession and contingency planning policies by encouraging a current assistant supervisor to attend one of the training sessions.

Additional information

The VCAA strongly encourages schools and VCAL providers to invite their new chief supervisors and any assistant supervisors to attend the school in person to complete the training. This will reduce technical issues and enable further discussions at the school level.

New chief supervisors and assistant supervisors will be paid to attend training. Where there are multiple supervisors at the one location, please email confirmation of attendance to the Project Manager, Examinations Conduct and Administration to ensure each supervisor is paid. Payment will be included in the funds sent to schools for supervision of the GAT.

Where possible, new chief supervisors should refer to the 2021 Examination Manual before attending training. The 2022 manual will not be available at the time of training.

School personnel experienced in the conduct and administration of VCE external assessment are encouraged to also attend a training session to support their new chief supervisor and any assistant supervisors attending the training session.

For further enquiries, email the Project Manager, Examinations Conduct and Administration.
