VCE VET Events and Tourism

The VCE VET Events and Tourism program is drawn from a national training package and offers portable qualifications which are recognised throughout Australia.

These qualifications provide students with the skills to work in a broad range of event and tourism industry sectors and for a diversity of employers including event or exhibition organisations, tour operators, visitor information centres, hospitality venues, cultural and historical attractions holiday parks and resorts.

These qualifications provide students with a broad range of skills and knowledge to prepare them for a diverse range of occupations in the Events and Tourism industries including the tourism and travel, hospitality, sport, cultural and community sectors.

The VCE VET Events and Tourism program does not offer scored assessment.

Qualification

Credit in the VCE (including VCE VM and VPC): recognition of up to two VCE VET units at Units 1 and 2 level, and non–scored VCE VET Unit 3–4 sequence.

SIT30522 Certificate III in Events: prepares students with a limited range of events administration or operational skills and knowledge to complete event-related work activities, including planning and delivery of events at event venues, event or exhibition organisations in corporate or community settings under guidance, using plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.

The program includes units of competency such as; administer events registrations, use a computerised booking system, plan in house events, develop conference and event programs.

SIT20122 Certificate II in Tourism: prepares students with a defined and limited range of tourism operational skills and basic industry knowledge to perform routine and repetitive tasks and work under direct supervision, providing a pathway to work in many tourism and travel industry sectors. Job roles include museum attendant, office or administration assistant for tour operator or travel agency.

The program includes units of competency such as: Source and use information on the tourism and travel industry, provide visitor information, process travel-related documentation.

SIT30122 Certificate III in Tourism: prepares students with a range of tourism service, sales and operational skills to perform industry operations and coordinate tourism services, under limited supervision, providing a pathway to work in many tourism industry sectors and a range of employers including tour operators, visitor information centres, attractions, holiday parks and resorts.

The program includes units of competency such as: Provide event production support, plan in house events, use a computerised booking system, administer event registrations.

Credit in the VCE (including VCE VM and VPC): recognition of up to two VCE VET units at Units 1 and 2 level, and non–scored VCE VET Unit 3–4 sequence.

Note: The non-scored unit 3-4 sequence can be delivered over more than one enrolment year.

Students are strongly advised against undertaking the scored Unit 3–4 sequence without first completing Units 1 and 2 because Unit 3–4 sequences are not designed for standalone study.

Program material

The VCE VET Events and Tourism program booklet contains information relating to the qualifications approved by the VCAA for delivery to VCE (including VCE VM and VPC) students.

It includes advice on the units of competency making up the program and the credit available for students.

It also provides advice on Structured Workplace Learning, the ATAR contribution and pathways to further learning.

ATAR contribution

Students who receive a VCE VET Unit 3–4 sequence for the VCE VET Events and Tourism qualification will be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR (10% of the lowest study score of the primary four studies).

The increment is awarded by the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC). For more information, visit VTAC.

Structured workplace learning recognition

The VCAA provides recognition for Structured Workplace Learning for students undertaking a VCE VET program (VE1) or a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SBAT) (VE2).
