Preparing for NAPLAN 2023
In 2023 NAPLAN will be held in Term 1 instead of Term 2. Bringing the test forward will give teachers information sooner, allowing for more targeted support for students to make sure they are gaining important literacy and numeracy skills.
It is, therefore, important that schools begin preparing for NAPLAN 2023 now.
To meet the timelines for earlier testing, schools have access to the
VCAA NAPLAN Test Administration Website. A list of activities to be completed on the site, along with further advice about preparing for the tests, can be found in the
NAPLAN 2023: Information kit for schools and on our
NAPLAN pages.
For students requiring alternative paper test booklets, please be aware that the timeframe for ordering these has been brought forward. Schools need to review their student learning plans and order these test booklets by
Thursday 8 December 2022. Before ordering alternative paper test booklets, encourage students who may have required these previously to access the
NAPLAN public demonstration website to determine if they can access NAPLAN online. Students should test the zoom and colour contrast settings they may already be using in the classroom to check if these are suitable.
Like previous years, students will access the NAPLAN tests via a secure locked-down browser that must be installed on their device before the test days. An updated 2023 browser is expected to be released before the end of the school year. Schools will receive a notification from the VCAA NAPLAN Helpdesk when the browser is released. We recommend schools download and test the 2023 version as soon as possible to allow enough time to address any issues.
If you require further support to prepare for the earlier NAPLAN test window, call the VCAA NAPLAN Helpdesk during business hours on 1800 648 637 or email
