Plurilingualism posters

This set of downloadable posters has been designed to support the teaching of the Cultural and Plurilingual awareness strand of the new English as an Additional Language (EAL) curriculum. This strand is an integral part of the new EAL curriculum and the posters aim to support all teachers to integrate plurilingual strategies into their daily teaching practice and lessons.

Focusing on the mode of Speaking and Listening, these posters include examples of the ways that an EAL learner can draw on their home language to develop their English language skills across the different learning areas.

Schools with an EAL student population are encouraged to download, print and display these posters in their staffrooms so that all teachers have access to the resource.

Resources for differentiating learning sequences for EAL students

Existing learning sequences linked to particular learning areas in the Victorian Curriculum F–10 can be adapted to support differentiated teaching for EAL students in mainstream classrooms. Teachers can adapt, remove or add to elements of their learning sequences in order to cater for all students in their classrooms. Differentiating learning sequences provides opportunities for EAL learners to participate more fully in their learning by giving them greater access to content across the different learning areas.

The VCAA has published a set of 27 sample learning sequences that contain EAL annotations and adaptions. Each learning sequence outlines teaching and learning strategies for one or more curriculum areas, from Visual Arts to Mathematics. Each learning sequence contains at least three different lesson phases, all of which have been expertly annotated by EAL specialists with advice about how the teaching can be differentiated for EAL learners.
